Hi all:

I'm new to this - so please bear with me.

Deep breath......... My partner and I are looking to get married in August 2012 and like most couples we have We have very specific requirements for our wedding.

We only want to get married outdoors - we are not religious so we do not require a religious ceremony in a church and neither of us has been married before. I have had quotes from wedding planners saying you can get married outside and then info saying you cant - so im just that little bit confused!

We will be flying from Newcastle to Italy; therefore we would like to be in a town that is no more than 1 and half hours away from the airport.

We will have approximately 50 guests attending the wedding.  Therefore whatever town we chose to have the wedding in will need to have a variety of accommodations to suit all budgets.  Also, we would like to be able to suggest to guests that are attending our wedding – sights to visit and activities in the area.

We do not want a very formal wedding, we would love a relaxed and stress free day – surrounded by friends and family.

We have 3 young boys – who will be aged 2, 3 and 11 by August next year.  There will be between 10 and 12 young children attending the wedding therefore we would ideally like to be near a lake or the sea – so that those with young families have places to spend the day.

We do not have a set location in mind, i.e. villa, farmhouse or hotel

We have a max budget of £10k but this must include 1 weeks accommodation for 2 aduls and the 3 children.

To say i am stressing about getting this sorted is an understatement. Every planner ive spoken to gives me something different but none of them are listening to what we want.....

The OH is now saying that we should just forget it and go to Vegas........i think my mum would lynch me if i did!

Any advice, help, suggestions are very very welcome!

In Response to Italian Wedding - 2012 - So frustrated:
Hi
I was married in Tuscany and felt my wedding was completely understood by my planner.  I'm not sure wether I can name the company on here, but if you want to email me direct i can let you know her details.  I also know it is possible to have a legal wedding outdoors.
She was great and inexpensive and made my wedding all i wanted and more.

Hi Lisa,

I'd be interested in the details for your wedding planner, if you don't mind?

Thanks,

Lexi

Hi Angel,

There are very few places in Italy where you can get married outside, especially for foreigners, so you'll have to ask the wedding planner about that.

we want to get married next June in Lake Como with a legal wedding outdoors and i would like to recommend my wedding planner

She has found so many alternatives to help us save money and made sure we are totally prepared and organised for our wedding!! (our wedding is very cheap)

i can give you more details and help with planning just email me on nextbride2012@gmail.com good luck

Alicia

Hello,

We want to get married in Lake Garda in August 2013. Would anyone be able to recommend wedding planners or have any tips? I'm unsure of just booking the wedding via a travel agent or have a separate planner?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks
Lynsey

You should check out The Cloisters in Sorrento. Its in a courtyard and not religious. 1 hr from Naples and loads of things for guests to do to including Capri, boat excursions, Pompeii and more. Loads of accomodation options. We are getting married through Thomson, Maybe check out their brochure?

Hello!

We are getting married outdoors legally at Castello di Vincigliata just outside Florence.  Cheap regional flights go to Pisa and then it is an hour's easy bus connection for 10E to get to Florence.  Or BA etc flys direct.  We are having our reception at Li Zuti resort and staying at the villa.  I have also used a wedding planner - I have found him invaluable for all the legal stuff but most other things you can organise (and get better prices usually, youself).

Hope that helps!

Hi,

I'm getting married outside in Italy in Sept 2012. Not using a planner though as they charged £2000 and I struggled to see what you get for your money when a registry office wedding in Italy is only £400.

We've booked Malcesine castle terrace. It is in a village on Lake Garda around 1 hour from Verona airport. If you want more info look on Trip adviser under Malcesine.

Hope this helps.

Lyndsay you should check trip adviser too, there is really no need to use a planner as it is very straight forward. Castle will support you and lots of people on trip adviser give advice on reception venues, completing paperwork etc

Lake Garda would get my vote too, stunning cool lake, refreshing mountain air!
Been to 2 Italian weddings, one near San Gimigano in Tuscany, other outskits of Florence. My 4 year old got heat-exhaustion in May in Florence, bear that in mind with children! I'd head to the mountains or the coast.
let me know if I can advise you further,
best of luck,
Jo

Don't get frustrated, but be careful of what you read here or may here from some wedding planners.

I've been assisting couples with weddings in Italy for 20 years, and one thing all couples should be aware of is this: Legally binding weddings CANNOT be held in outdoor locations, unless that villa, or hotel, or space is given specific permission by the town hall for a wedding. So, for example, the Malcasine location IS a possible spot for an outside, civil, legally binding wedding, while the Castello di Vincigliata is NOT.

If you'd like more information and help, I'm always will to discuss!: www.italyweddings.com

Ben,

Thank you for this but I am using a recognised Italian Wedding Planning company and they are organising me a legally binding service.  It is a protestant service though (with civil validity) not a pure civil one if that make any difference?  There appears to have been many weddings held at the Castello from what I can see so could you explain why you believe it not to be valid.  I can now understand what the original poster meant as I am now confused, worried and frustrated at the implication that my wedding will not be valid.......
