Hi everyone havent been on here for ages but was just after a little advice. I am 38 weeks pregnant today and im feeling very tired, restless, anxious and dont know where i want to be!! also had a lot of lower back pain which comes and goes.. pains in my nooni (tmi) and lower stomach.. i was just wondering if this is a sign of me needing rest as labour is approaching or how everyone else felt before they went into labour... i think im just picking any little signs up now and hoping for it to be labour coming ha.. xx

Ooh, sounds pretty positive! Definitely time to rest up a bit, although if you have the energy I really really recommend walking as this will help baby get into position and may help nudge labour along a bit.

Personally I didn't get any twinges or anything, not even braxton hicks, until the contractions actually started, but from hearing from other women it does sound like things are moving along but I wouldn't necessarily say labour is about to kick start any moment. It could easily go on like this up until your due date and beyond. Unfortunately the last couple of weeks of pregnancy suck! Keep walking, rest lots when you're not walking, and drink raspberry leaf tea (can help speed up 2nd stage of labour apparently). Good luck, looking forward to hearing your birth announcement!

I had lots of 'is this it?' With my first and swore I was going in.to labour several times but as soon as the real deal happened, I just knew that this was what I'd be waiting for.

My midwife said all the niggles etc were my body 'tuning up' so uterus getting ready, cervix moving forward etc.

Fingers crossed you'll go soon, if you haven't already, the end is the pits! X

Oh I second the raspberry leaf tea - also, eat loads of pineapple, ripens the cervix!!!

My 2nd was 6 days overdue and I was convinced I was in labour for weeks cos my 1st was premmy (just!) and my waters broke at 36wks and I had to be induced as I didn't labour.

Your body does so much in preparation that everything will feel different to you. Sounds like you're going in the right direction though!

I woke up at 6am with my daughter, feeling the starting contractions. Very much like period pain, you will recognise it. I called mat unit about an hour later as they were about a minute, six minutes apart and they said I should just go in when I felt like it and they weren't busy (for once!) I went in about 9 and contractions totally stopped, nothing on the monitor showing anything and they sent me for a walk. I was contracting all the way round and came back but they said I should maybe go home. As a last minute thought she said, I'll just do a quick exam - I was 7cm! Straight up to labour ward, smile on my face, they couldn't believe it haha!

Anyway, it wasn't quite that simple - she was section at 20:14 that night after a long and drawn out attempt! I apparently am not built for labour!

All the best, you will do fantastic, just make sure you make the most of appreciating being a 'couple' as no matter how many people tell you life will ever be the same again, you'll never remember what it was like!! Xx

Hiya
My first sign of labour was my waters breaking in the evening, i'd had nothing before that!! Although i was absolutely knackered and quite achey all day
I would say that all your niggley pains and aches are your body gearing up for the big day so get plenty of rest and to totally contradict myself try and walk as much as you feel able to aswell. I'm convinced it was all the walking i did that brought on labour for me, i walked loads every day and the day i went into labour (xmas eve) i must have walked about 3 miles through a forest. Like someone else said tho, even tho your body is starting to get ready it could still be a couple of weeks until anything actually happens and its so frustrating just waiting and watching every sign. Drink raspberry leaf tea (or take the capsules) i'v never given birth without but i had a really short 2nd stage with them so i'd say they helped! Good luck and let us know when babys made an appearance :)
xx

I took twice the recommended dose of raspberry leaf caps and had a 7hr first labour and 3hr second with 45 mins and 10mins of pushing so I wouldn't want to risk doing it without them if I ever decided to have another x

Aw, don't be scared! It will be fine, I promise!

You can get raspberry leaf from holland and barrett.

To be honest, if you're 40 weeks already I can't imagine that it will help much now. They recommend it from around 36 weeks to help tone your uterus up.

My contractions started at 11am, I managed to stay at home to watch Dr Who (thanks to my tenns unit) and then went in when it got too painful. I had a water birth and can really recommend it. A year and half after the birth of our little monster, we're trying again. You'll be fine, just try your best to stay calm. x
