Do you have wedding insurance? What sort and who with? I think we need to get some as I'm about to put our deposit down on the venue and want to book our photographer soon but I'm a bit confused about all the different aspects.

Or do you think its just yet another way to make money from the wedding industry?!

I was thinking the same as you, that it was just a big old con, until one of my work colleagues said that she was really glad she'd had it when she got married, as a few DAYS before their wedding, she fell over and broke her leg. Needless to say, I rushed out and bought it! I went to E&I insurance (I think) and it only cost £30. Hope that helps?

Ours is with Events Insurance. We had to have wedding insurance, with a certain level of Public Liability Insurance, to be allowed to hire our reception venue (common with listed buildings I believe). It has some very big, expensive chandeliers and paintings, and I wouldn't want to have to pay if someone damaged something!

I actually think our policy is amazing. We only have to pay an excess if we claim on the Public Liability part, otherwise there's zero excess. Things it covers include staging and retaking our photos if the tog or vog doesn't show or the pictures don't come out or the film or files are damaged or lost, loss or damage to hired clothing, loss or damage to outfits of the bride, groom, bridal party and parents up to 3 months before the wedding (e.g. if anything happens to my dress), loss or damage to the wedding rings, flowers, cake...

I find the part about hired clothing particularly reassuring!

I wouldn't have bothered except my venue required it but have never ever checked that we got it. We also went with E&L, seemed to be the cheapest.

Thanks everyone- you're probably right that its good to have 'just in case' but I can't help feeling like its just preying on the fears of the bride a bit! As it is we need to have it (with public liability) if we want fireworks (which I really do) so we'll need it anyway but I was just interested in whether it was the norm or not to take it out...

Thanks again,

M

Ours was with Ecclesiastical. I got it for piece of mind, ie if I buy it I won't need it and if I don't I will, same reason I bought umbrellas in matching colours!

I don't think insurance is preying on brides because those fears aren't unfounded - things can and do go wrong, businesses go bust, things get damaged or broken, it happens.

We have- cant remember who with at the mo though but we did it through quidco and got a little bit back too. In my mind it's a tiny bit of money for a whole lot of piece of mind. Our budget is £8000 so we are spending less than 0.5% on making sure if something goes wrong we can still have the exact day we want and when you think of it like that, how can you not get it?

I think I might get the one on E&L that's like £19 - we don't have a lot of suppliers as we're pulling in a tonne of favours (from photography to the cars), but I think I might get it for the reception venue and rings and stuff :)

We used Debenhams too - I get an extra discount through work so it actually only worked out at a one off payment of £35 for us - its one of those things where you'll likely never use it but if you dont have it.....

doesnt have to be a huge cost though! Shop around!

Lou xx
