Hey everyone,

Does anyone know of a personalised wedding website service who doesn't insist on you giving them a 'bride' and 'groom' name? I love the idea of setting up a site but obviously for two chicks such as ourselves the traditional labels just don't fit.

Also, I would love to chat to other gay couples planning their weddings - I just got engaged at the weekend and it's all very new and exciting so it'd be great to hear other people's stories.

Much love

Jayne

Hi Jayne,
First of all congratulations! I am Lisa and my partner Sophie and I have our civil partnership in August this year.
We were unable to find a civil partnership website so unfortunately Sophie is down as the groom which is far from perfect but we really wanted a free website! We used wedding path - it is easy to set up and looks pretty professional.

If you want to chat about anything CP related, either on the forum or via email, just let me know.

Hi Lisa,

Congratulations to you girls too!

Thanks alot, I'll check weddingpath out - shame about the 'groom' thing but such is life, I guess. Maybe a gap in the market there though!

I'd love to keep in touch re all things CP related - would be nice to be able to chat to someone in a similar boat, so to speak!

Having some trouble PM-ing you my e-mail address (I am such a technophobe!) but perhaps you could PM me yours if you're more clever than I am about these things?

Congratulations Jayne,

Me and my girlfriend Ariadne are getting married July 4th, we're having quite a big do so there's proabably quite a lot I could tell you.

With websites, we actually got given one as an engagement present and I design it myself - do you have any friends that do web design? It's only a few quid to register a domain name (ours is www.lizzieandari.com if you want to see it and what we're doing etc)

Will keep in touch here for more advice etc.

Yay congratulations - who proposed?

Hey Lizzie,

Congratulations to you too! You must be getting so excited about your big day! Your website is great and really informative for your guests...great idea to get your own domain name too.

My fiancee proposed to me , it's been a few weeks now and I'm still walking round with a deleriously happy grin on my face!! We started visiting venues last week but haven't found anywhere yet that feels right AND costs right!!

Yes, would deffo be good to keep in touch on here, or if not by e-mail. My e-mail is jayneybelle@gmal.com so feel free to drop me a line if you want!

Good luck with all your planning!

Hi Janey & all us other happy couples out there,
I agree that a lot of these sites are very hetro-orientated, how would you like to be categorised on these sites?

That's an interesting point actually - at the Registry office it's 'party one and party two'. I definitely think of myself and my w2b as 'brides'. Fortunately (to give it a bright side!) I don't speak to my father so there is only one Father of the Bride, though 2 Mothers of the Bride. Then there's the Brother of the Bride, the brother of the other bride, and the other brother of the other bride!

Do all you other happy gaybos out there still use terms 'bride' and 'groom' or do you just not think in those terms at all?

My MIL refers to herself jokingly as the 'mother of the broom' (eg. a cross between bride and groom), as my fiancee is the more boi-ish of the two of us and will be wearing a suit for the wedding, amongst other things. Obviously we're not casting her in the 'groom' role in any sense, but the nice thing about CPs is the lack of protocol and the fact that we can make our own tongue in cheek slants on tradition etc. x x

Interesting posts... I recently sent a complaint to confetti about the whole Bride/Groom thing... as we are also two girlies... however, Haven't heard anything back.....yet!!

And recently advised Greenbee that there wedding insurance document had my lovely W2B down as a groom!! they were really very nice and helpful, apologised profusely that there had been some delay in fully updating their system to ... Participant 1 and Participant 2. They are sending me new documents.... Not ideal labels, but shows that times are truly changing.

Good luck to all of you on your forthcoming marriages... we've had lots of fun preparing and are now counting down in days...33 to be precise x

And in answer to Lizzie... we are absolutely and most definitely.... BOTH... very excited.... BRIDES!!!! biggrin.gif

I definately call myself a bride, and as does my fiance. I'm not a big fan of saying 'life partner', it makes me think of birthing partners for some reason. Haha.

Congratulations on your engagement!  You could try www.JusttheThing.co.uk who do wedding and/or civil union websites (b&b or g&g names appear in top banner but not sure what it says on the filling in form).  Our friends (girls) got married last summer and recommended them, they went for a blue themed civil union site which looked lovely.

I feel I should apologise on behalf of all wedding sites that only give a bride and groom option.
Hardly very reactive to modern society.
I will flag this up with the development team and see if we can change the options for you.
This won't be until Monday BTW.
They tell me it can be done.
Then hopefully you can tell all your lovely partners they don't have to be a 'groom' anymore.

Fingers crossed ladies.

Smiles:)
Belinda
