About six months ago, I got engaged. And it’s been really exhilarating to think I’m getting married to the most amazing person who I’ll be spending the rest of my life with. But ladies, let me tell you that this joy is short lived, because trying to find the perfect dress can be an uphill battle even for the most hardened shoppers!  Read more of this blog here.

Bridal shopping: Nightmare or joy? Let me know what you think.

Both, depending on what shop you go to!!

First shop I went to was good, nice helpful staff. Bit of a pushy sales approach, I wouldnt have minded if Id found a dress I loved.

Second shop was a nightmare! Pushy horrible sales staff, sticking veils into my hair even though I said I didnt want a cathedral length veil Yell

Third shop was a total joy! Lovely staff, found my perfect dress!

I have actually had nightmares about this - latest: I turn up to my wedding in a pink lame bodice and blue lame skirt, look down and realise I look horrible, and have to fashion a dress out of a pair of white curtains and a tshirt with 10 mins to go before walking down the aisle.

I've not even started looking yet.  I'm not looking, on principle, as I have a year to go and have to do things like book a marquee at this point.

Ha ha. Laughing Thankfully I am not alone. It makes such a difference when the staff are professional and friendly. But, even though I now have my dress, I am starting to have nightmares about it not fitting right on the day. Or me just freezing totally because I've picked something rather skimpy for November. mmmmmm. Best buy some insulating tights and have a hot water bottle on stand by while I sign the register.

it started a joy. 1st shop was amazing! loved it! 2nd was rubbish. and after that it all becomes a blur. i went to so many places and tried on so many dresses looking for the perfect one that i got so stressed that when i did find it i actually yelled at my sister in the shop (whilst there was another bride in there Embarassed i'm so ashamed of myself now!)

so yeah, it was an interesting experience for me.....  very very stressful

Ugh, it was so depressing! So many designers try to make up for the fact that they've used cheap 'n' nasty material by covering the thing in sparkles, and it's no wonder so many brides look the same - the shop assistants just tell you "you think you want this, but actually you want this dress that I've pushed on five other people today". Gargh!

I was so delighted to finally find my perfect dress in my local bridal shop run by two completely down-to-earth ladies.

Stick to your guns and don't be bullied by the shop assistants!

So far it's been a nightmare, but have only been to 2 shops.

Fingers crossed for the next one Wink

I went to two shops.  Loved it!  Wasn't expecting to buy.  First dress I had on is my dress.  No problems at all! :D Done in a few hours.

I was really worried about this element as I am a bit self critical. My Chief BM came with me to a Pronovias sale, not the best place to start, especially as an average sized woman I could only get one on, and it was horrid - women flying about everywhere! Eugh!

I was nervous about going again but my Chief BM and BM took me this weekend to two local shops and I had a really lovely time. Fit in most of the dresses - one even had to be clamped, and I think I have found the one, heading back in a couple of weeks to double chack and then order it, as it's a limited edition. The ladies in the shop were really lovely and in the know about the dresses - I just tried to embrace the experience and it paid off. Good luck! x

Started bridesmaid shopping yesterday and think this is even harder than finding my dress. Exhausting amount of dresses to try.

went to 3 shops - bought in the 3rd which was amazing service and have since been back to retry the sample to remind myself

the 2nd shop was awful - the lady actually said to the the assistant helping me "how many more is she trying, she's nearly had her hour" in front of me
as soon as i got out of the shop me and my mum simultaneously started saying how rude they were
also they kept calling my mum honey which she hated and told her off for using a camera phone - decided i wasnt prepared to pay them any of our money however nice the dresses were

I went to 4 in the end.  In 2 of them I was just ignored(one was really cramped and out of my price range anyway) so just ended up walking out.tThe first on they were nice but I got the feeling in the end that they were just saying stunning for me to buy a dress although they weren't pushy at all and the last that I found my dress in was amazing.  She actually suggested my dress for me.  She let me walk and dance around the shop (I was the only one there) and let me spend loads of time in my dress (i tried on a few others first).  Loved the experience.  Better still dress shop is near work so she said I can pop in at any time to try it on again (mine's is a sample dress that was in the sale so already there)

It happens most of the time when you want to buy a wedding dress and you have to look perfect on that day as, it is only day in every girl's life whwn she wants to look perfect and gorgeous and for this you search a lot many shops but, I suggest, it will be better if you try to find some official sites from where you can find your dress that looks best on you and accordingly you can place an order.

Thanks

I had a great experience.  I went to 3 different shops to try dresses, and bought mine in the third one.  I loved trying on all the gorgeous dresses and having all the time in the world to do so.  The staff were lovely, and the shop I eventually bought my dress from was absolutely beautiful as well.

Oh no!  I decided to bite the bullet and book in with the Pro Novis sale coming up!  Maybe I should go somewhere else first? Have managed to persuade my fabulous and lovely Man of Honour to come with me though, so at least we can go drown our sorrows afterwards!

Took me 8 months to find my dress - total nightmare, finally the young assistant knew exactly what I wanted from my description, it was way out of my budget but once I tried it I knew it was the one!!! so had to have it.....

So far its a nightmare! Im in my 40s and cant find a shop that doesnt just stock strapless meringues of varying fabrics all in white/cream/ivory. they just dont do it for me, sorry. I want something with a bateau neckline, classic lines (and yes, possibly ivory or champagne) but just cant find it. I cant afford a couture dress either and phase eight (whose dresses I love) dont stock their bridalwear in my part of the world  Frown I also get looked up and down as though Im joking when I say its me thats getting married and not my daughter Frown very disappointing............

Hvae you tried the high street shops? Monsoon, Debenhams, BHS all have great selections at the moment.
I found one dress in a small bridal shop for £184. There are a few articles in the wedding dress style section that might help. Try Off the Peg Frocks.
Let us know how you get on.

Thanks
