Hello ladies!

It's just less than two months until my wedding, and my dress definitely needs alterations. I bought the dress in February and took it home, but I expected the store to call me and arrange for alterations?

Is that how it usually happens? How long should I be allowing for this?

Thanks!

Hi Hun I'm not sure how it works but I would say you need to be getting in touch with them as 2 months is not long at all x

Did they mention alterations when you collected it? I know my dress shop stored my dress until the day before we went on Holimoon, so the alterations were arranged to be done by this time. I think about 6 weeks is the norm (allows time for a second round of alterations if it's not right the first time) so I'd be ringing to book an appointment if you don't hear from them soon. Maybe they think you're taking it elsewhere?

Cos my H2B lives with us, we didn't take mine home. But when I bought it, they said we'd arrange for the 1st fitting. My granny came over in Feb so I went to see the dress with her then, but my 1st fitting wasn't until like May? and I have my 2nd & final one today. I'd call them and ask what's going on. Most shops I think call you, or arrange when you buy it.

If you have the dress you better get on to them, they may think that their part is done. I bought my dress last November (was sample so didn't have to wait for it to come in) had my first fitting in May, and my next ones August, I get married in October

I ordered my dress last August and only got the call to say it had arrived at the shop 2 weeks ago. My first fitting is in a fortnight, which will be just over 5 weeks before the wedding. I know I need alterations because I'm almost 2 sizes larger round my bottom than top. I think if you've bought your dress and have it with you, then you might want to ring them. I arranged and paid for alterations when I bought the dress so I knew they'd be getting in touch about it.

Thanks guys! I checked with the shop and they don't actually do alterations but do recommend someone. I'm going to shop around a bit but realise I'll probably end up going with the recommended lady. I was hoping to be able to speak to her in person as I'm a phone-fear wreck but the only contact detail she offers is a phone number. Argh!

Gemma, how much did you pay and for which alterations? Just trying to build up an average idea in my head.

This lady's leaflet says that she does gown shortening for £45-£65 on a plain gown or £65 to £95 on a detailed skirt (which mine will probably qualify for as there's a panel of beading down the middle!), no prices for anything else that applies to me. I'll need a larger modesty panel putting in and it fitting around the bust and I think that's it although the seamstress will know for the best.

My alterations are starting tomorrow morning, I've got my first fitting at 9.30 - very excited! I collected my dress in May but our wedding is 21st September, plenty of time for adjusting a few seams and putting some padding in the bust - ha ha!

Hope you find someone soon for your alterations.

Hey Juju

My alterations package was £100 all in - whatever it needs. Which seemed fine by me at the time - and still seems reasonable now.

Hope you get it sorted. I may still need to find someone to do my sister's dress yet.
